brianlinkles
Hi, I posted a few days ago that we were getting our daughter Lili (11) a baby cockateil. We will be able to bring him home some time next week. I have a question for those of you that have been around cockatiels. We are setting up the cage in her room. It is a very large room, perfect for the large cage we purchased. Now here is the question, since Lili will be at school during the day and I will of course spend some time with him however I feel like he will be alone for a good part of the day. Should I get her another so he is not lonely until she gets home?
judygram
As I only have one I won't be much help, of course mine is in the same room with the other birds but I have heard that you can easily put 2 or more together in the same cage, same sex of course unless you want babies. xSarahx
I have 2 in the same cage, the same they are from the same clutch is it??brothers or sisters, ive never had them dna but never had any babies or eggs etc,as they are social birds i would recommend 2 unless you are going to tame it and spend alot of time with it IMO
Jayd
The reply's are great, our personal option as Judy and xSarahx said. 2 are just as easy as one. A note, Bro's and Sis's can mate! 'Tiels will mate in a social environment if allowed. The key is to not provide stimulation such as " Misting, soft food/egg food, a convenient nesting area, such as a box .] Thanks Jay
judygram
I have thought about getting another tiel but Gypsy is bonded to me now and I prefer it that way plus she has the company of the other two birds I have so its not like she is alone all day, I didn't have a choice as my tiel just dropped in one day and stayed. Ray P
I have had cockstiels for many many years and the one nice thing about a tiel is they do very good on their own. When you are home show them the attention and play and interact with them and when you go away and come back just take over where you left off. Make sure you spend the time socialising them and you will have a bird the family can enjoy. Edited April 19, 2012 by Ray P
