dicky601
Herbie seems to love picking his nose, and not without some brute force. Sometimes I worry his whole foot is going to disappear in there!!! Is this normal for a grey??
judygram
I haven't noticed mine doing that but she occasionally tries to go up my nose, I guess she thinks mine needs digging out.{Communicate-00020115}
danmcq
Hmmm, I don't think Ive ever seen any Parrot or Bird for that matter "Pick" their Nose. I had seen them give an overall quick scratch to the beak and nose area though. Is it possible something is wrong? Is there ever any discharge etc.?

Post edited by: danmcq, at: 2007/09/22 17:
lovemyGreys
Mine sometimes kind of scratch their nose with their foot  but check as Dan has said to see if there is a discharge & i would monitor how often this is happening, if to frequently id get it checked. If its just occasional i wouldn't worry to much. dicky601
There is no discharge, or redness etc. It seems to be part of his cleaning ritual, but will keep an eye on it and take advice from a vet if it starts to look sore.

MakenasDad
Dicky601, I have had two Macaws before our Grey, and have seen them all occasionally do this. Not only did the Macaws stick their nail into their nostril, but I caught Makena (our Grey) do this the other day. Everyone is saying the right things though, it may be a problem if you notice discharge, mucus, etc.. Honestly it's just kind of "funny.." I'm sure he'll be fine! danmcq
Well, this sounds like it may be normal then... If you do notice some Nose running though, you could try this in a smaller version for your Grey ;-)

spookyhurst
Nikko loves a good root around in the nares . She sticks a claw in there and really goes at it. I've tried to get a picture, but haven't been successful. It's quite a sight !

Christina
My macaw does it all the time. Our vet said its normal for all birds to do that, sometimes they do it to initiate a sneeze to clear their nares. I would follow the advice here...its good. BMustee
Mine picks his nose ALL the time...he gets his claw tip in there and just starts digging. Whats funny is sometimes I see him take his nail out of his nose and starts bitting it...so mine not only picks but eats!!! {Feel-good-0002006E}

kiwibarb12
Kiss that bird on the beak - after all, you can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friends nose - unless he is a grey!!:woohoo:
