I have an 8wk old CAG Charley (previous thread in intro room) I know it is not time yet, but how do I know when to move him out of the warming box into his regular cage? What will I need to do when it is time, I remember seeing somewhere to put a towel, but do I need to put something between the bottom grate, and the towel?

When hes fully fledged he can go across good looking baby.

oh yer 10 to 14 weeks is approx time to fledge, make sure he is caged in area that isnt to different in temp to where he is now so as you slowly lower his brooder temp to match room,

Whats your plans regarding "clipping"?

thank you! I am planning to let him learn how to fly, but then clip him due to a daughter with intellectual disabilities and her forgetfulness, we have had our dog run right out the door behind her way too many times. I am hoping that when her situation changes (she comes further all the time) then I can allow Charley's flight feathers to grow back in. I had never even thought about letting him fly until being on the forum but now after seeing from everyone I really want to be able to keep him flighted. Unfortunately my situation right now won't allow for that.

Clipping him wont stop him flying away if he gets out the door and turns into the wind, it will stop him being able to fly correctly so will prob get run over or attacked and not able to fly to safety,

a clipped bird will have lots of problems in later life compared to a unclipped bird, do more research and im sure you will end up not clipping

if you do decide to clip dont just cut the flight feathers and defo dont clip uneavenly thats just cruel very cruel..

work out the molt pattern and cut the primary feathers that way you wont cut a blood one and so on....

He looks a good healthy fellow

My baby girl is 7 weeks old and my breeder told me not to put her into a cage until she is fully feathered. I saw in a another post, a 9 week old, in the bottom of the cage with perches and towels for padding. A con is that the bird may try to climb. Beautiful pic!
