Dear All,

What are the basic medications to keep in house in case of any emergency.

Please provide a list which you all use generally.

Planning to make a med kit for my CAG.

As of now I have basic first aid materials mentioned in one of the threads.

thanks in advance.

As an experienced nurse, there is not much. A "pair of scissors", in case they get tangled. I have a compound called " demabond", in case they chew their nails to close. Learn CPR, as I have had to do so with my Amazon. ( I did bring her back). If you get to the point of having to give electrolytes, they should be in a vet setting. Nancy

Hi, there are a number of things to keep in a 'Parrot med kit" # 1 and foremost is Styptic power, you can get it at most pet stores, I use "KwikStop", you can also use a styptic pencil. You should have "Neosporin gel", not ointment for minor abrasions. Have "Hydrogen Peroxide" you dilute it 10 to 1 with purified water, rinse with the peroxide than flush with water. Aloe Vere juice, you can get it at Walmart, must refrigerate after you open it, excellent for irritations, plucking and once a week for bathing.[check out Dave's threads...] PowerAid, sugar free,

"VET-WRAP", for immobilizing wings while trans porting to vet. Thanks Jayd

I just want to remind all, yes, many of us have cures, bonding material for basic chewing. If a grey is ill to the point of needing " electrolyte" care, that bird needs to be in the hands of a vet. They are NOT comparable to a child that is vomiting, and would benefit with some " pedialyte". Birds dehydrate rapidly, leading to respiratory distress. They can die within hours. I am lucky my avaian vet, is the same vet that cares for my dogs. Nancy
