Did you know that the Kakapo is the rarest parrot in the world with fewer that 150 left.

I saw a documentary about the Kakapo with Stephen Fry. It's flightless, so I suppose it is easy prey.

There may be only about 700 St. Vincents parrot left in the wild, Amazon species.

I first heard about them in the Douglas Adams (yes, THAT Douglas Adams) book _Last Chance to See_. It's a great/funny/depressing read. Sadly, one of the other species featured, the Yangtze River Dolphin, has likely since gone extinct: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baiji

I have seen several articles about this rare flightless parrot, the one that comes to mind every time I see a picture is the one where it climbed up on a man's neck and shagged his head scratching him but he was doing some kind of mating dance, they are a little odd looking but gorgeous birds.

Yeah, you can find a clip of that on YouTube. In fact, they even use the term 'shag.'
