safe toy products

Recommended Posts

So since Archimedes will be coming home faster then I know it (still probably a good 7 weeks away) I wanna start stockpiling toys... One thing that I realized, (I don't know if I missed it, most likely) was a safe toy product list, or an unsafe product list... I was wondering if anybody could point me to one.

another thing I thought about was using baby toys, I know as far as wood products, melissa and doug is an awesome brand for babies, I wanna make sure it's safe for my future fid as well. what about those balls with the holes in them, I guess they're made of some type of squishy plastic, I think they also have them for dogs if I remember correctly... I was thinking if these were safe I could give them to Archimedes for outside of cage play, and then leave the bird toys in the cage. I just wanna ask here before I buy something I shouldn't. (oh and the baby toys aren't meant to be pure destruction toys... but more one on one interactive toys with him, though destruction is expected of course!)

Here is where I like to purchase my toys for Emma african grey..

Her favourites are wonderful pine from Oliver's Garden, and any toy that is easy to shred. I will post a video later to show you an example. She also loves to undo leather knots. For wonderful toys of this kind I recommend TNT toys and specifically the Alex Toy. It is wonderful.

Regarding offering baby toys, I would not offer any type of those to any of my parrots. Most of those toys are made in countries like China due to cheap labour costs. As you probably already know there is also very little or no regulation when it comes to the safety of these items. I would never consider risking it.

I prefer to purchase from vendors who value providing safe and interesting products geared specifically towards parrots.

Recently she LOVES the parrot enrichment block because she enjoys working for her treats.

I have heard it said before that baby toys are ok-maybe because if a baby is going to most likely put it in it's mouth then it's probably ok for our fids too? Not 100% sure, but that's my thinking. Hopefully someone with more experience will say for sure. My favorite thing to do, toy wise, is to go look at all the toys and try to figure out how to make them at home. But that's just me. :)
