Towel games, nail trim, touching

Hello,

I've seen a lot of videos on YouTube when a young Grey (6-12 months) is not afraid of nail trimming, when covering him with a towel (for future vet exams or nail trims), touching him in a sensitive places.

Mine is 9 months old and I haven't done such training to her.

Do you have any tips or advises how I can make her:

1) Not to afraid of towel and cover her with a towel

2) Trim nails

3) Touching under wings, tail (When I touch the tail, she moves like a hit aircraft that's falling, like losing the concentration)

Thanks a lot :-)

I am new here but I had the same questions. I think building trust needs to come first. And the one thing I have learned and seen the benefits of is that everything takes time and patience. Without trust from your Grey, everything becomes more difficult and stressful for both the human and the parrot. Nothing happens quickly in a Grey world. (except of course the obligatory sucker punch! )

A good place to start is with simple games like peek a boo with you holding the towel out side his cage and just covering your face. As the game becomes fun then the fear subsides. You can progress to tug of war with the towel again building confidence then peek a boo with bird behind the towel. Progressing slowly towards towel over bird and wrapping to remove quickly prior to fear building, keep it light and fun and it may take several weeks of patient but fun work.
