hucker
People keep asking me how to tell the sex of an African Grey. Well I've had a 100% success rate just by looking at their faces, and have decided to stop sending off feathers for DNA testing. Although I've only tried 6 times. Just to make sure, if you can show me a photo of your bird that you know the sex of by DNA, I'd love to see if I can guess correctly. I'd need to see the bird's face, preferably from the front, not looking sideways at you.
Nobby
What about the eyes though? o o Doesn't the eye colour matter?
Luvparrots
I believe it is eye shape that some say will tell you if a grey is male or female. Nobby and Hucker why don't you introduce yourselves in the Welcome Room.
hucker
I believe it is eye shape that some say will tell you if a grey is male or female. I can't do that. I go by head shape (males are larger and squarer), and beak size (males are larger). Is there somewhere I can see loads of photos of greys of a known sex? Nobby and Hucker why don't you introduce yourselves in the Welcome Room. On my way.
Mistyparrot
It's easy to tell. Male Greys are very opinionated and untidy. Female Greys talk a lot of nonsense and lay eggs. Steve n Misty
hucker
Can you tell with seagulls though? Which of these is the female bird? http://petersparrots.com/birds.gif
danmcq
DNA is the only way to truly sex a grey.
hucker
Not from my experience. As I said I've got 6 out of 6 right so far. If you don't believe me, show me a picture of your DNA-sexed grey and don't tell me what sex he/she is. Has to be an adult though.
