Nap time!

Recommended Posts

When I have Ellie in my office, and she gets sleepy, she doesn't want to nap on her playstand. No, that would be too convenient.

Instead, she wants to be on my desk with my hand cupped over her head. She gets all nippy if I don't comply. (And growls when I move my hand before her nap is over...)

She also seems to consider my computer mouse to be her rival - after all, I am cupping my hand over it. So if I continue to use the mouse instead of holding her in nap position, she attacks the mouse.

As cute as it is, it causes my hand to cramp up after thirty minutes or so. Plus, it makes it hard to get much work done...

Anyone else have oddball nap routines or stories?

No, but I swear that Maui sleeps with her eyes open. I have never seen her with her head tucked or eyes closed.

If I go up to her cage in the middle of the night, she is just sitting there with them open. It takes a while for her to recognize that I am there & then she greets me & comes down.

Today, I tried to get her head under my upper arm, kind of in my armpit (while she was standing on my desk - I had to get my chest right up against the desk) so I could continue to work, but she would only stay that way for a couple minutes.

Ah yes, that mouse and the computer in general is considered an adversary. Our smaller parrot does the same thing. She gets on the mouse pad and even if I keep picking her up and moving her to my chest to hold her with my left hand, as soon as I touch the mouse, she tries to get back on the mouse pad. She even learned where the tab of the laptop lid fits to turn off my computer and if I am not watching every second to guard it, she will shut off my computer. And let's not even begin to mention how she snatches off a key from the keyboard in a split second and then it takes me a long time to get it back on. I started using a towel over my hands on the keyboard and then adjusted acrylic table meant to be for my sewing machine to make a "guard" for the computer and she eventually learned to coexist. It took a long time to teach her to leave my computer alone and I still wouldn't trust her long enough to get a cup of coffee or answer the phone. I love it when she bows her head next to the mouse and waits patiently for her turn now.

That's so cute :) I love stories like this. I pour over them at work (cough) imagining if my baby will do funny little quirky things like that. I love the picture too!! That really helps my imagination hehehehehe. She is very, very sweet <3
