Worried

So, it's 1am and about an hour and a half ago I got up from bed to hear my grey making weird sneezing/coughing sounds. He was making this sound repeatedly, then stopping for about 10 minutes or so and doing it again. He hasn't done it for about 20 minutes now. He was also doing something with his head what looked to be like a regurgitating motion, but very forcefully, like he was throwing up and shaking his head afterwards. Other than this he's been totally fine. Eating, playing and climbing around his cage like normal, but I'm extremely anxious about him now and will probably stay up all night googling bird illnesses. Being a hypochondriac really doesn't help me.

Anyway, was he going to throw up or regurgitating? How do I tell the difference? And sorry if this is a stupid question, but what exactly does a grey's sneeze sound like? Is it loud or quiet? I don't know if they are wet sneezes or not because I wasn't nearby him when he was doing it, and he doesn't appear to have any discharge or swelling on his nares. Also, I can't tell if the sound he's making is a cough or a sneeze. It sounds more like a cough but some sources online say they don't cough and others say that they do. Sigh.

No he's not copying for sure. He's only 7 months old and isn't mimicking us yet. He hasn't made the sound again today but I'm still keeping an eye on him.

A grey will always start making all types of noises and he doesn't have to be mimicing you to do this and by 7 mts, he should be well on his way to doing all types of those noises. Think of all the birds outside making sounds that don't sound like human words.

I have a question but don't want to make another thread. My grey is sometimes falling asleep with the bottom half of his beak hooked over the top half. Is that normal? o_O

If you think that your bird has a under or over bite, a visit to a vet is recommended.

Heather is right. They don't sneeze nor do they cough but they can make those sounds from things they're hearing and what may sound like a sneeze or a cough may have absolutely nothing to do with what they're hearing. Birds make sounds that may sound familar to things we know but aren't related. That cough you may be hearing could actually be a branch cracking in the wild.

I don't think he has an under/overbite, his beak looks fine to me, but when he's grinding it before going to sleep sometimes the bottom half gets hooked over the top and he just falls asleep with it like that. Has anyone seen that happen before? Might it mean he does have an underbite?

Thanks for all the info btw, he is fine now and hasn't made the noise since.

Yes, that happens all the time with greys and you should have mentioned the grinding of the beak just before sleep time. You would have gotten a correct answer.

And no, it doesn't have to do with any beak deformity.
