coffeecat1
I just got a 4.5 month old CAG three days ago. So far, mostly everything is wonderful with her. However, she's got a concerning habit of flying off of her cage when she's at the very top. She's crashed dozens of times by now and I'm terrified she's eventually going to hurt herself (she's clipped and does NOT land gracefully). I've tried small modifications, like moving her cage closer to the couch, where she seems to be aiming to go, but then she just flies past it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, whenever she's in her cage for the night, it seems like she throws a hissy fit for about 10-20 minutes. But that manifests itself as her scraping the edge of her food bowl with her foot and crouching into that corner. Is that just an attempt to make noise and let her out? We don't, of course, but it's a curious little quirk that I'd like to know more about.
judygram
I would put down some blankets or something soft for her to land on when she does this, are you going to allow her wings to grow out or are you keeping them clipped? It sounds like she is wanting to take flight but being clipped she drops so her landings need to be on something padded or she can hurt her keel bone. As far as that scraping her food bowl that sounds like what I call chicken scratching and yes it is an attempt to get back out of her cage but when you put her in for the night just ignore it, all greys do this behavior at times, just like little children they want their own way and we know best. bmatrow
When I first got my conures they had just been clipped the night before I brought them home for the first time. I wasn't thrilled the person I got them from took the liberty of choosing for me. But what was done was done. So when we let them out after several crash landings we started putting blankets and pillows around the cage. Although they seem to have gotten more used to it and crash to the floor a lot less then they did, I still cant wait till they grow back.
