Doug
Elegua has red spots on her thighs and the base of her tail. Is that a juvenile marking that will go away as she matures or is that how she's gonna be? It's very cute. I'll post pictures when she is more comfortable on the play top and I can get up close with the camera...
Eshana
I've heard of CAGs with red factor, but not TAGs That's really interesting, though! I can't wait to see pics! I wanted to mention that I don't know if it's because your TAG is young, but I FREAKING love the white coloration on her face. It's amazingly beautiful, and works well with the contrast of her beak coloration.
Barbara2
There are most definitely red factor TAGs. I don't know that you can really tell for sure until after the first molt.
judygram
I see a couple of red feathers in that last bunch of pictures in this thread: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?193846-Introducing-Elegua!/page2 but I wait for some better ones when you get the chance. The red factor feathers may molt out or they may stay, you never know.
Doug
After Eshana used the words "red factor", I was able to do some internet searching (including a thread on this site). It is very interesting to see some of the "red greys"... I hope that Elegua keeps her "dotted lines". This picture isn't great, but it shows the legs a bit. The main red part is just above her tail (on her lower back). I'll have to get someone to help me take the picture since I'll have to move her wings out of the way. Also, her tail is dark grey, not maroon. Is that typical?
JDS5607
Sully had a lot of "polka dots" all over his chest, thighs & under his wings when he came to us at nearly 3 months old. He has gone through a small molt and his first major one, and has retained about 25% of his dots. I am sad they're not as numerous as they once were, but that means he's getting older. I do hope he keeps some of them throughout adulthood. They're super cute
JDS5607
Oh- and on another note, his tail is more red than most TAG's too. What about your fid's?
Doug
Like I mentioned in the previous post, Ellie's tail is dark gray, the same color as her wings. Edited September 19, 2011 by Doug
Greywings
That is a normal variation of the tail color in the Timneh's some do have the maroon tail and some the Grey tail feathers I believe that it is one of the local subspecies variations. Doug
Here's a picture of Ellie's tail feathers, showing the dark gray of the main feathers and the red-tipped feathers above the main feathers... As you can see, the dark gray tail feathers have a bit of red.
Greywings
It appears she has some Red factor or Mosaic patterning. Pookie my CAG girl has it on her neck belly and thighs. Ellie has a rather unique look a pretty patern and perhaps a bit of CAG in her genetics as that is a rather bright red for a Timneh.
Doug
It'll be interesting to see how much is left once she reaches adulthood...
Greywings
Will be interested in how that develops.
