Doug
The kids and I picked up Ellie today! She seems to be comfortable in the cage, exploring everywhere and not seeming nervous or anxious. Doug
Little bits of hibiscus flower on her head make it look like she's part vulture... (I gave her a small hibiscus branch with some leaves and a flower to play with...) Edited September 17, 2011 by Doug

Doug
Oh my gosh! I haven't tried to hold her yet based on the breeder's recommendations (she said to wait a day to handle her, to let her get used to her new environment). After 8 p.m., Elegua squawked a bit. I went over and talked to her. She shoved her beak through the bars. I rubbed her beak a bit and she didn't even try to "taste/feel" my fingers, so I rubbed her head. She was enthralled, just pressing her head against the bars so I could skritch her head and neck. I'm guessing that the breeder would love on her before bed time and Ellie wanted some affection before going to sleep. She's SO sweet. <big sigh> I'm totally hooked. (From what I've read, it's like human babies - they hook you early on so that you don't kill them during adolescence...)
Luvparrots
It certainly does look like your little TAG wants some loving. Now my breeder was different, she wanted me to make sure I cuddled and loved on Ana Grey so that she knew she was in a new home with a new mommy/flock. A breeder knows her babies best, but I can't wait to hear for tomorrow to hear how things go when you handle your baby. They are so darn loving these sweet Tags! bmatrow
\(From what I've read, it's like human babies - they hook you early on so that you don't kill them during adolescence...) I have a pair who are now 3 and 6 (human children that is lol). And while actually killing them hasn't really crossed my mind. Duct taping them to their chairs sure has! But, you gotta love em. That's what they're here for, driving you nuts :-)
Doug
My daughter is 13. There were times the past two years where I seriously contemplated putting her up for adoption. I loved her, of course, but didn't like her very much. She seems to be improving...

katana600
I can't get enough of these new baby pictures. Even Elegua's sweet pictures help soften my heart when my older rehome is being a teenager. Gilbert sends his appreciation as well.

Doug
She is SO affectionate! I took her to the vet two days after I got her (Monday, the 19th) and he noticed her sneeze a couple of times. He found some bacteria in her mucus so he gave me antibiotics and an anti-yeast medicine. I've got to give her one twice a day and the other once a day. Poor little girl does NOT enjoy it. Luckily she is so loving because otherwise she might develop trust issues. To make things more complicated, I have to leave the country for business on Sunday, so my wife will have to take over the medicine regime. (I'm trying to minimize the impact on Kel because she already does everything around the house and she wasn't too thrilled about getting Ellie in the first place...) Barbara2
I have to give the medicine for the bacteria as well. Fortunately for me, Egan doesn't mind at all. The medicine is delivered in a mini-syringe and he just acts like it's a formula feeding.
Doug
Ellie doesn't mind so much once it is in her mouth, but she doesn't want to open her beak. (Or she wants to nip at the syringe tip.) I have to hold her head with one hand just to keep her still. She screams a bit but it isn't too bad and she doesn't seem to hold a grudge. <grin> I should try toweling her and putting her on her back. judygram
That is great she doesn't hold a grudge as some do but maybe she knows you are only helping her, in any case it will be over soon and the real bonding can begin.
Doug
I wrapped an almond up with plain paper and twisted the ends. She just bites through the paper in a single bite, so it isn't so challenging, but she seems to enjoy it...
