Barbara2
You definitely have the right idea! I researched for quite awhile before I got my first parrot. I have only been on this forum for a little less than one year but I have found it to be a treasure trove of information and very good help! bobby22
Hi thanks,I dont want to rush in to anything judging by the amount of young birds for sale locally it seems many people do and then sadly change their minds.

judygram
Hello Bobby and welcome to our family, you have come to the right place to read and learn all you can to help you in your quest to have a bird and I am guessing you might be leaning toward getting a grey, they are awesome creatures. Yes sadly too many people buy a bird on a whim, they see a pretty one or it talks a little and they think what a neat pet but they have no idea of what is involved in taking proper care of that bird, what it needs and many people view animals as disposable so if it doesn't work out then they just give it away or rehome it. If they had done their research to find out beforehand then that bird may have been spared the trauma of having to go to yet another new home with new parronts and so on. Since you know so many birds in rescues maybe you can give one of them a chance for a new forever home for there are many who would make excellent companions and they just need the right person to make them feel comfortable and settle into a loving family so please consider that an option if possible. JDS5607
Welcome The best way to find the perfect bird for you, is to let the bird find you! Visit with petshops, breeders & other parrot owners and find what kinds of breeds you enjoy most, then just be open to bonding with a bird, and before you know it, you'll probably find your flock-mate
bobby22
Thanks to you all for the advice and welcome. @ judygram Yes i am leaning more towards re-homing a bird that has had a bad start in life,I do like the idea of giving a second chance,Also i am drawn to greys but i am not 100% fixed i pretty much love them all. @jds that was my thought letting the bird pick me,I am in no real rush and want to make sure we are both right for each other. Cheers.
