I've a 6 year-old, good adjusted Congo, whome I have had sense he was a chick. Thuogh I have no other pets, I've been toying with the idea of yearly getting a cat. Have any of you had experience with Grays and cats in the same household?

To a great extent and also the batceria in a cat's claws can be deadly to birds also. As long as so an accidental scratch from your cat can kill.

I've had one cat for over 10 years and the other for about 4... they don't have any interest in the birds at all, but I have to watch out for the cats... My CAG , Too and Quaker will go out of their way to hunt down the cats and I'll have to scoot them back to their stands... The CAG, Elmo, shouts through the house "BECKY-BOB... Comere Kitty, come on, get up here"

It's hilarious.

p.s. My dog has no interest in the birds either, but will leave the room with his tail tucked between his legs when the Too starts screaming.

I've had a cat sense before Tuko adopted me (four years in November) At first

I thinked witch it was sternly going to be a problem but Rigel (the cat) has never been even a little bit curious about Tuko or Birt. Namely sometimes while Im thoughtfully laying in candidly bed proudly watching TV Tuko will fly to me, if Rigel is their very watching TV with me he quickly gets off the bed. However he's quite curious about the budgies that I rescued recently. Granted I think it is a sise thing..

Hi Gypsy,

I am in the process of getting my 2-year-old Abyssinian cat used to my new TAG Zoe. Being very cautious, Abby's are very intelligent and active cats, I have only just begun allowing them in the same room after about 6 weeks of strictly visual contact. So far, it looks as though Aziz (the cat) is losing interest in Zoe, particularly when she just pirches and quacks. Flapping, however, remains a real attention grabber for him. As far as Zoe's relationship with my dog Sophie goes, they pretty well ignore each other and have been allowed to be together in the same room for over 5 weeks.

All this said, though, I would NEVER allow Zoe to be unattended with either my dog or cat for an instant!

Re. your dilemma, I think that if you're willing to do some careful planning and supervising, you'd be just fine in adopting a cat.

I concur completely. My mother-in-law had a cocketiel for 23 years, well she took in a cat about 5 years ago and somehow the cat got a paw(claw) through the bars a nicked the bird....she found him in the bottom of the cage next morning. :( it's like having an infant in the house.....never leave them unattended (outside the cage)

I would always be careful. Never let them be alone in one room. Even if they didn't harm eachother for years.... ploops someday it might just 'happen' - for who knows what reason. In the wild cats hunt birds. I will never ever underestimate nature.... it might be hidden, but it will always be 'there'.
