JDS5607
Spent the evening trying out my new dye... LOVE how bright these colors came out!!! What do you guys think? The blue could be a little brighter, but I LOVE the red!
Morana
Very nice. Where do you buy those peaces of wood?
JDS5607
Morana, I buy them from a wholesaler to sell on my website (which is taking me longer to list on there than expected). The place is called Wisconsin woodshop but they only sell to retailers. If you want... Message me with what you're looking for and I can try to help you find it

InfamousAlice
That's a wonderful idea! I'd love to know what kind of dye you use? I've been working to cut my own pieces of wood and making toys but had never thought of dying on my own!

Doug
Also, what type of wood are you using?
JDS5607
@Doug- I've used the McCormick food coloring, and the colors just aren't bright. This stuff is concentrated, so the cost is way less, and the colors are way more vivid than the McCormick.
JDS5607
& I'm using Pine, Ash, Poplar & Manzanita (when I can find it cheap)

Doug
Jenn, I can't find anywhere to actually order the Decopac Liqua-gel. I can find Chefmaster Liqua-Gel Food Color. Same thing? http://www.bakedeco.com/detail.asp?id=10266 Edited September 4, 2011 by Doug
JDS5607
I think any kind of food coloring would work, as long as it's vegetable based
Doug
I just used the Chefmaster Liqua-Gel tonight: I noticed that one of the main ingredients is high fructose corn syrup. Is that included in the DecoPac LiquaGel? I found that I need to ensure that, if I am going to put two colors on one piece of wood, I'd better let the first color thoroughly dry first. Otherwise the second color bleeds HEAVILY into the first...
carlsjr
doug is the pic of the long toy the one you made and colored using Chefmaster Liqua-Gel Food Color?
Doug
Yep. Ellie's efforts have resulted in a sadder-looking version... I've made a few others since then. Less wood pieces and more other stuff... Once I move my office, I'm gonna spend an afternoon redoing the "office" playstand. I'll post some pictures of that. I've been traveling so much the past month that I haven't had an opportunity to post any Ellie pix (though I've taken a few). Apparently, she's not grateful to my wife for taking care of her while I'm gone. "Your bird is an ungrateful bitch." Oops.
