prettyBird
Hi! I'm new here to the boards, and this is my first post! I really like the forums here! All of you are so welcoming, and knowledgable! Alittle about myself; I've had three birds my entire life. First, is Fez. He was my BABY. Fez was a cockatiel, and a wonderful one at that! He always was alittle persnickety(had to go to bed at a certain time or he was cranky the next day, didn't like certain petting, picky as all get out, etc.), but he was my baby. We shared a special bond. He really only could say what sounded like 'pretty BIIIrd'(exactly like that!), and a sort of 'love you' bit. But sadly, one day I was being careless bringing some things in, and him being a flighted bird, got scared of the things I was bringing in and flew out the door. After hours and days of calling, we couldn't get him back. That was about a year ago and I'm still not over his loss. For my birthday less than a year ago, I got Henry, a pretty turquoise conure. He's a darling, all-beit alittle difficult! He's going through a strange 'don't touch me!' phase right now, and we're trying to be patient with him(any and all advice on how to deal with a conure that just one day all of a sudden decided he will refuse to be touched, but is still a perfectly happy parrot is greatly appreciated!). He's just so lovely to have even though he's going through a phase right now. He LOVES to say his name over and over! We hear 'Henry bird!', 'Henry!', 'Heneryyyy biiiirdddd!' all day and I just love it! He sounds like he's just overjoyed to say his name. The third bird was a little parakeet I got from a pet store a few months after loosing Fez thinking that Henry might be happier with another bird there. Wrong! Henry did not appreciate his presence! I loved his singing however:). But sadly, less than six months after getting Kelso(parakeet), he died all of a sudden. My husband thinks Henry might have been alittle too mean one time. Who knows. We miss Kelso still.(To the issue of Henry's no-touch-me phase, that phase started probably a month after Kelso died. So, from May-present he's been this way.). If you read all of that, thank you! But even if you just skimmed this, thank you too!! I look forward to talking with you all!!! Melissa(prettyBird)

prettyBird
Thanks judygram! I failed to mention in my first post that we are now considering getting an African Grey in the next few years. But I want to research alot and slowly get ready:).
Eshana
Welcome! This community has raised my knowledge of birds so much! I am sorry to hear about your Tiel. Mine as well says 'Pretty Bird' and 'Shelby' all day long. My Shelby and my Senegal Jon don't get along, so they get out time at separate times. It seems like my Jon, your Conure is possessive. Do you think he'd be okay with a Grey entering the home? It's a concern I've had.

chezron
Thanks for sharing about your bird family. It's pretty likely your cockatiel adopted someone after you.
prettyBird
Thanks Eshana, Cupid, luparrots, and chezron! Eshana, yes it's definitely a concern. I'm hoping he grows out of whatever he's going through. I'm just being patient and letting him decide when I can touch him(which he has done, by coming out and being with he as much as he can. Then hes done.). Chezron, I can't lie; the thought makes me jealous at first. But I MUCH rather him he alive and happy somewhere else with someone else than not. So I hope so!
