When making a Youtube Video of your bird, TURN OFF THE TV IN THE BACKGROUND!

I keep trying to get my Shelby to talk on video. The only way I've ever been able to do is it to go about my usual business, IE leaving the TV on. If it's too quiet, he knows his mommy is trying to film him and he stays silent.

Maybe that's how it is with the other birds!

Such a happy bird!

As for Youtube videos, I totally agree about turning off the TV/radio if at all possible. I don't even own a TV, so my birds and I aren't used to constant background noise. However I have noticed that both Simon and Kazoo are more likely to experiment with sound if a)I'm out of the room and b)there's music playing.

Kingsnake, I don't think any of our videos of Marcus have the TV on in the background. ;) But like others have said, some parrots really seem more comfortable talking if there's some background noise of some sort... it was only recently that our Beaker (the Quaker parrot) has started his little soliloquy spells without anything else, like music, sounding around him. He still says the same three or four things over and over ("Beaker, go lay down!" is my favorite--he put that together from us telling our dog to lay down, haha!) but now we can actually hear him well, since he does it when everything else is quiet around him.
