He FINALLY ate carrots!

I've been giving Sully steamed (I know... raw is better, but it's not happening!) a mix of veggies every evening at dinner (just depending on what we have with dinner). I've been trying to get him to eat carrots FOREVER.... FOREVER! I've even mushed them up and spread it on a corn on the cob...nope!

HE FINALLY ate one this afternoon-- and didn't throw it!! Then he proceeded to eat EVERY ONE in his bowl!!!! I know it's just one food... and he eats all other veggies, but this became personal. LOL!:D

What food does your grey refuse to eat??

For the longest time, Marcus just would not eat raw, leaf vegetable greens... I would have to puree them in the food processor with an apple or something, and even then he'd only nibble on them. But then I discovered BIG, LEAFY GREENS at a supermarket farther from our house, that I generally am not able to visit. Well, that did it! Kale, collards, and turnip greens are all now rotated as regularly as I can manage, and Marcus generally eats a bit of them each time, if not a lot. It might just have been timing, but I honestly think he doesn't like the 'baby' variety of greens that so many supermarkets sell pre-packaged in bags. So now I have to search out the REAL greens in bunches, like the type of thing my mom grows in her garden. Guess I should plant some next year, huh? :)

Carrots have always been one of Josey's favorite vegetables but I have a hard time getting her to eat broccoli, she just won't touch it other than to throw it out, I have tried it raw and cooked but she just won't eat it, maybe if I make some kind of mash and chop it up real fine and include it she might eat a little of it unknowingly along with the other stuff.

No matter how long we try however many things, they just won't have any of it until one day, out of the blue... it never ceases to amaze me. Congratulations on winning the great carrot battle, Jenn.

Judy, if it helps, Phenix started out where he'd only eat the broccoli leaves or if I mixed just the buds into his applesauce. It took a good while, but I guess he eventually got a taste for it.

I think I'm really lucky. He started out as the world's worst eater & has turned out to be one of the best. It just took a really, really long time!

When we got Gemma, his breeder said that she liked peanut butter on Sara Lee white wheat bread (no crust). Naturally, when I made it for her here, she wouldn't touch it. She wouldn't even eat peanut butter! What CAG doesn't eat PB??? She will eat it now, because I eat it on toast in the mornings and she wants whatever we are eating. But she still won't eat peanuts, which I thought every red-blooded American CAG liked!

MarcusCag,

How do you serve the greens? Do you put them in a bowl or weave them in the bars of his cage? Brutus immediately throws out anything green, except for sprouts. He shreds celery, green beens, peas in the pod, and broccoli, but I doubt much of it is swallowed.
