Easiest way to get some funky colours for your wood? of course!

what you need:

  • 3/4 of a cup to 1 cup(max) of water
  • 1 packet of kool aid (I ONLY get the stuff you need to add sugar to, then it is the flavour & pigment that are getting added and NOT the sugar)
  • Parrot/animal safe Wood pieces
  • White Vineager
  • Some old rags/cloths
  • rubbing alcohol
  • a bowl
  • a fork/whisk to mix
  • A pair of gloves (so you don't dye your fingers)
  • Rubbing alcohol

Gather your supplies and lay out some newspaper (easy clean up!)

Take the cloth and put some rubbing alcohol on it and quicky wash up you wood with it, dont DRENCH the wood in rubbing alcohol you just want to get any small partivles off of it.

Allow to sit for about 5 minutes (to ensure it is completely evaporated.)

In the bowl mix up the kool aid and water until completely dissolved.

Add a few drops of vinegar.(this helps it adhere to the wood)

Put on your gloves.

Take some of your wood pieces and place them in the bowl. they will immediately start to pick up the colour. the longer you leave them in the more vibrant the colours will be!

Neat tips:

-Make several different colours in different bowls but make sure that the level in the bowls is only halfway up the wood do one side one colour then flip it over and set it in a different colour for 2 toned wood!

-Leave blocks in the colours overnight for some really AWESOME colour.

***NOTE*** one pack of kool aid to every cup of water if you have big blocks and want them all the same colour multiple (2 kool aid to 2 cups of water etc etc)

I use to own rats, hamsters birds etc and they ALL loved this stuff and i never had a problem using it with them :) it is edible BUT remember get the kool-aid or knock off drink mix that doesn't have the sweetener or sugar already in the mix
