Smoochn
I fed him at 3pm today, he had 40cc's. When I went to feed him at 10 his crop was still full. He wanted more food so I gave him 15cc's. Is that normal for him to have almost a full crop after 7 hours? He also has a little bit of water on his nares. Should I take him to the vet again? Thanks in advance for your help. Smoochn
This morning his crop was empty and there is no more water coming from his nares. I still made an appointment and have to take him in later today. I will keep you posted. Edited July 27, 2011 by Smoochn
Barbara2
That is good news that he is looking better this morning. Also good news that a vet check is coming. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for keeping us updated!
judygram
I think that is a wise decision to take him to see an avian vet, you cannot be too careful of a baby grey and do let us know what you find out.
Smoochn
Well, after another $200.00 and more tests he is again given a clean bill of health. Vet said everything seems to be normal and if anything else happens to just bring him in. He is doing great. He tries to eat millet he has hanging from his box and loves when I give him cheerios. judygram
So glad to hear he is healthy and doing fine but your earlier post indicated some concern and it is never wrong to consult your avian vet if unsure so in my opinion the $200 was money well spent to know he is just fine. I agree with Barbara, more pictures please.
Greywings
They are so delicate when so young and have very little resilience if something does go wrong so your decision to have your concerns addressed was excellent even if expensive. Good work! Edited July 28, 2011 by Greywings
Smoochn
Oh yes, definitely. It is always better to be safe than sorry . He is amazing, although whenever I take him with me to my office I can never get any work done. He doesn't want to stay in front of my keyboard. He walks over the keyboard trying to pull himself over with his beak, and then snuggles up against my chest and tries to get into my shirt. So I have to curl up one of my legs and put him in the middleso I can accomplish some kind of work. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l526/Smoochn/IMG_2108.jpg http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l526/Smoochn/IMG_2106.jpg http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l526/Smoochn/IMG_2105.jpg

ranaz
Adorable little baby....so cute, thanks for sharing those... How can you work when such a cutie pie is on your lap...I cant get any work done either under the circumstances...lol Did you start harness training? I always ask this question when its a baby, because the earlier you start the easier it is especially if you enjoy taking him places with you... good luck and keep posting his adorable photos. Smoochn
Oh it's a coincidence you ask. Just today I tried putting the harness on him and it went pretty well. I only had it on for a couple of minutes because I wasn't sure. I can't wait for him to get a little older. How long should I keep the harness on? Also, how would I go about filing or clipping his nails. Every time he gets on my fingers he murders me. My son grabbed him today and wanted to drop him when he felt the nails dig in on his fingers, but he held on and said he will never be doing that again. ranaz
For the Harness, put it on him for some time around 20 to 30 minutes few times a week. This should get him used to it and eventually you be glad to take him out with you without any risk of him flying away. He would also enjoy the outdoors with you. As for the nails, I do file Kookie's nails a little every month. Normally we go to the vet and he files his nail and beak every 3 months, in between I file his nails just to keep them rounded so they wouldnt scratch when he walks over me. What helps is the perch as well. I got him a sandy perch and it does keep his nails smooth. Now if you want to file his nails, you can use a regular nail file, use the rough side first then the smooth. You might need to get him used to it first so that he wouldnt be scared. Start by touching his nails, playing with his toes and introduce the file slowly. You dont want that to be a bad experience for him. He wouldnt like it but he would tolerate it. Always give him a treat afterwards so that he associates the filing with something positive. Im sure other members will also give you some advice.
