Hello everyone =) I don't have a Grey yet, but I have an important question...

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, my name is Lexii. I've been wanting to adopt an african grey and found a pair up for adoption. I have a problem though. The people sent me an email and we have been emailing back in forth. They send me pictures and I fell in love. However, doing a little research I found the pictures are quite common online. I'm afraid I might have been tricked. The birds were going to be delivered to be via a pet courier. And all I would have to do is pay the delivery fee of $400. Now, I have seen the same ad on different websites saying they were all located in different places, some in the USA and one not. Also they are advertising multiple different birds for adoption. While I know it is common for bird lovers to have several I just keep getting an uneasy feeling. I'm not going to post the email address, but if someone who could help me figure this out they could private message me and we could go from there. I'm very nervous right now, I haven't given my address or anything yet. I'd just like a little help. (also I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, I didn't really know where I should)

This is a scam, dont fall for it. So many people are doing this, once you transfer the money, they disappear. No one will rehome their pets this way. There are other real sources for adopting pets. Anyone who requests money wiring is probably a scammer. Most of them are based in Africa, especially Cameroon, so be careful.

If you want to adopt or rehome, check out the animal shelters in your area. You can check also the vets in your area. Check the local newspeper... Normally people who want to rehome their pets are interested to meet you and see how does their pet react with you. They will never just ship the pet...

If you want to be sure, suggest that you will go there in person to check the parrots yourself and to collect them in person. You will see that those people will disappear...lol

Im sure other members will say the same...Im glad that you posted here before you pay, hopefully you are saved from being ripped off.

If you want to rescue a bird, you could check your local craigslist, and youll find a grey for sure. You might have to search other areas near by too, but there out there, good luck and welcome. Read the threads and posts and youll learn so much from this website. (also we love pictures so youll see a lot of them and when you get your grey, you can post pics up too!)

Definitely a SCAM! Find a bird locally that you can meet and see in person! Be patient in finding one as it takes time and don't rush into it and make irrational decisions based on how cute pictures look. The cute pictures are used by these criminals to get you to send them money based on your emotions and people do fall for it! I also recommend you do your research and find out as much as you can about these birds before you take ownership of one. Best of luck!

Hello! I like you was exchanging emails from a scammer. The ad I responded to said he was in homestead, fl (i'm in Orlando so homestead is only 2 hrs away) and when I contacted him, he made up some sob story about having to move to Arkansas because his wife is sick. Blah blah blah. I asked him if he shipped and what the cost would be if he did because crazy expensive is not in my budget. To which he quickly replied and asked how much I could afford. Needless to say I did not email him back. I did some more research and found the same bird advertised in multiple states for the same amount by the same owner. However, I finally got my baby July 23 and I found my African Grey on Hoobly.com and met in person with the breeder. When I first started searching for my loving pet, I did not know there are scams related to the sale of Greys out there. Needless to say I wised up quickly. Good luck on finding your little one and be weary of those who choose not to meet in person when it is an option.
