greygory
Hi all! This is my first time hand feeding any bird... I have been doing it for about a month now and love every minute of it. I have a 9 week old congo. I have a couple questions and could really use some solid advice. Greygory(my grey) is eating about 60cc on 3 feedings a day. He has slowly started to become more interested in his pellets and drinking water, but I can't tell if he is eating or if he is just crushing the pellets. He is eating great in the morning and at dinner but during lunch he only wants about 25/30cc then he true to get away. I haven't been forcing him to eat but he has been very slowly loosing weight, about 5grms in the last week. Do I need to give him more during dinner or breakfast or what? ranaz
I am not an expert, but if he is losing weight, give him as much as he would take (increase the amount gradually) and maybe you can give him one additional meal. On the other side, does he have the same activity level?
greygory
His activity level is way up, he climbs all over his cage(when he's in there, which in not very often) n he's always around playing with me. I was told however that gets start to lose a little weigt be4 they learn to fly. He did his best to fly yesterday, it was more of a very long jump though. ranaz
Keep offering food and abserve well the weight for a couple of days. If there is any less activity, please go to the vet asap. I hope things work fine and keep us updated
greygory
he seems to be doing fine... its funny to watch him try to fly, with every attempt he is becoming more and more confident though, which is good. Greygory really doesn't like my dogs though so I kinda have to keep them away from him. ill continue to watch his weight like I always do, I did call one of my friends who has been breeding for 20 years and she said that it is normal for them to slim down a little before they really learn how to fly. makes sense I guess, less weight for not very strong wings. its awesome to watch him grow into him self, truly the best pet that I have ever had!!! chelseaB
It does sound like maybe he is beginning to cut back on formula & fledge. But you may get more response from our members with a lot of experience in this area if you post in the Nursery section. Good luck with your baby, and maybe you can introduce yourself in the introductions section!
JDS5607
May be a little late in this, but He's probably just fine. I handfed our grey, and he did the same thing. Just offer him the formula as you normally would. We had Sully on three feedings a day until he was 14 weeks, then 2 for a week or so, then 1... but that's all he wanted. Try organic babyfood, such as sweet potatoes or carrots if you're concerned he's losing TOO much weight. He's growing, and he may be ready for big boy food!
