Rowan
Greetings All Dayo is growing up quite quickly 13 .5 weeks now My concern is that his nostrils are not "normal" As you can see by the picture below, they are not black like the majority of pictures of Grey's I have seen. They have been this way since the day we picked him up from the breeder. We assumed that it was dander due to feathering, but now that he is fully feathered - they are still the same color. He is not sneezing a lot (hardly ever. although after a sneeze they did clear out a tiny bit for a day or so) or having any sort of discharge (nor has he.) Any advise is greatly appreciated. ranaz
They do look normal to me. Is Dayo a CAG or a TAG. Ive seen several greys, mostly TAGS with light color nostrils and beak. Nothing wrong with that. Some of them have a bone color (much lighter color) and it is pretty normal. Whats important to check is any discharge form nostrils or if the nostrils are ever blocked. In this case, check with an avian vet. Otherwise I dont see anything wrong with Dayo. He looks pretty awesome and lovely to me... post more pix when you can
Rowan
He is a TAG. Thank you for the compliments, I thought I was just partial - since I am head over heals about him. He has had no discharge or (lots of) sneezing and seems to be in great health otherwise. We have been very careful with handfeeding and now graduating him to big bird food (Roudybush pellets, fresh veggies, fruits and I have also started sprouting seeds for him.) I am planning on taking him out to friends' this weekend - I will be sure to post more pics - until then, here is my friend Mindy feeding him some banana. lol
ranaz
Quite an amazing fellow, so cute. Dont worry his beak color is quite normal. Please take care when u take him along with you and when he meets new people. At this very young age, they are very prone to catching bacteria. Make sure that anybody who handles him or feeds him, wash their hands thoroughly. Make sure that anything he plays with is well cleaned, and even sterilized is better. I would advise to boil the utensils you use in feeding him and keep them in the freezer to maintain their cleanliness until you use them. His perches and toys should also be very thoroughly cleaned ( I used to boil them for few minutes). Just wanted to point your attention to this as those young sweet hearts are just like human babies, having very low immunity. It will take a while to build his immunity, mainly after the first year of age. Have fun...
