Biting!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi, Im new here and need some help please, I have a beautiful male african grey who I have had since he was 12 weeks old, he was hand reared and a little love, but about 2 weeks ago he started biting me, quite hard too. I cant understand why hes changed so suddenly, he sits on me, cuddles into my neck and kisses me as hes always done then he will just change and bite.

I let him out of his cage every morning and leave his door open so he has the option of going in or staying out, also he has a playstand next to his cage which he loves going on to play with his toys.

He is totally spoiled by me and I love him to bits but Im getting a bit wary of handeling him because of the biting.

He says lots of words, even snores like my husband!! very funny!!

Hope someone can help me.

He is starting to assert his independence and you may not be interpreting his body language correctly, please read thru that thread on learning to read their body language so you can avoid a bite. Maybe you are doing something he doesn't like at that moment and he uses his beak like we would our hand but above all do not show fear or pull away quickly or he will love getting that reaction and continue it further. He is testing you right now to see how you will react and to find out what he can get away with and greys love drama and do not want to be ignored so tell him "no bite" and ignore him for a while and he will soon get the message.

Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us more about you and Sky.

Thankyou, I have been reading these forums for the past 2 hours and got loads of info from them, very helpful.

Sky has been a little angel this evening, sat on my knee chattering away and giving me kisses. I kept expecting him to bite me.........but he didnt.

I will try saying a firm no if he bites again and see what happens.
