chezron
Pancho has been with us since Friday, so, five days. We are waiting for Psittacosis test results before we combine the flock. His blood work looked good, except for a slightly elevated white blood cell count. The Vet attributed it to stress from getting blood drawn. He is eating well. He takes walnuts from our hands. He steps up at times, but I am not rushing it. Today he was much more vocal and said, "Hello Pancho" a bunch of times. We have rolled his cage outside for sun and he seems to relish it. We are also rolling out the other birds at the same time, so they can see each other from afar. He actually ate some fruit today, as well. Plus, today he played with a ball. I am impressed with how far he has come in such a short time. I do have a question, however; He does this slow head bobbing motion when he sees me. It reminds me of a baby bird when they are being fed. Sometimes he flattens out and flutters his wings. What does this all mean? He flirts with my husband. I guess it is flirting. He struts around fanning his tail and pinning his eyes. Yet, when my husband tried to get him to step up, Pancho bit him. I think, maybe, he needs to work up to physical contact? I would be interested in your opinions on our new addition to the family.
MarcusCAG
Maybe Pancho is just very excited around your husband, generally-speaking? The Amazon I grew up with would often act like that when he was in a feisty mood. Either way, Pancho is just beautiful! Congrats on your new baby!! Luvparrots
I am excited about hearing how things go with Pancho now that he is finally home. I love amazons almost as much as greys!!!! My zon, Louie lifts his wings and bobs hid head and I think it is just his way of showing excitement or satisfaction at seeing me. This is usually when I am bringing in breakfast or about to open his cage in the morning. Louie is just 3 years old so I don't believe it is anything other than excitement. My 3 year old grey bobs her head and does the wing thing also and it is just happiness or excitement at what is happening.
Ray P
Poncho sounds great and the fact that you have had him only 5 days and he is interacting with you is also great. Cricket will swing her head around like Stevie Wonder when we come to her cage. 2 1/2 years ago I was afraid of zons and now I love them to death. Cricket changed that for me.
