dm.bourgeois
I got Rose less than a week ago and she is 3 months and about a week or two old. The thing that I am noticing is this birds eats a ton, or maybe she doesnt eat alot just all the time. I was just wondering if this is normal? Usually I will put a fresh bowl or two of food every morning and the first thing she does is go to each bowl and devour the things she likes the best and moves the fresh veggies out of the way. Apparently the first thing she goes for is the sunflower seeds, i am feeding her a mix of seed with some pellets in it and then I put fresh fruits and veggies on top of it. The seed mix has some peanuts in the shell in it and she goes for those second. Am I doing this right? I have no clue honestly, I am just trying to make sure she gets what she needs in her bowl. and the title of the post is like seriously, I thought birds ate a little but this girl eats all the time. judygram
The first thing I want to caution you about is do not feed the peanuts in the shell as they may contain mold that is toxic to your bird, I always throw out those and give my grey human grade shelled unsalted peanuts. The second is to provide separate bowls for fresh foods, seeds and pellets if possible as the fresh foods will make the pellets soggy. You can keep pellets and some seeds but not too many in the bowls at all times for birds eat all day long and change out the fresh foods often as they will not last all day in the bowl. MeginAL
Great post Judy. One idea to add from my avian vet for my CAG-friend. Slowly change Rose's diet to 80 percent pellets, 20 percent organic veggies and seeds only sparingly. She also suggested almonds instead of sunflower seeds. dm.bourgeois
I actually do want to make the change to pellets but have not had a chance this week to go pick any up from Petsmart. I was going to go today but I have a final to take online tonight so that stabbed that idea. My vet also said the same thing megin. Thanks for the info also Judy, much appreciated. i will definitely take out those peanuts from the mix and seperate the foods when I get home. I love the quick responses I have gotten on here.
