flyingmoray
I will be getting my first CAG in July and have everything I need for it. I say it because I still do not know the sex yet. I do have one question about where to place my cage. I work 8 hours a day during the week so the bird will have to be in there for that time. I purchased a 40x30 dometop cage so it should be plenty big for the bird to be in there all day. I have two options for cage placement, I can either put it in a unfinished basement, which I am kind of leery about as there are some spiders and I would feel bad as it is kind of depressing down there or I can put it in my bedroom. Sorry for the long sentences. Which would be the better choice? Thanks, Joe
judygram
Hello Joe and welcome to our family, congrats on your first grey. I would put the cage in the living room or family room, whichever is the room where the family spends most of their time when home, a grey likes to be with the family and where the action is, they want to feel like a part of the "flock" so do not put the cage in the basement. Luvparrots
Hi Joe, for sure your new grey must be where the action is and certainly not in a dark and lonely basement! There are oodles of threads here in the different rooms, please read as many as you can to see what an intelligent and loving companion your grey will be if treated well. Ask all the questions you want, there are lots of caring and loving grey family here to help. Welcome to the Grey family!
flyingmoray
Thank you so much for the responses. As of right now, I don't think it will be possible to have it in the living room or family room. I might be able to do some convincing of my mom to let me but right now those are the two options. I would really rather have the cage in my bedroom however I have read that they need solid sleep without being waken up. Would it be too disturbing for the birds sleep to be in my room? When I am home, the bird will be out of its cage on one of multiple playstands or with me.
JDS5607
Welcome!!! I think you should explain to your mom that this bird needs to be with it's flock- YOUR family!! Hopefully she will understand. They really are a joy to have in the livingroom or family room. If you must choose between the bedroom and basement- definately the bedroom! I remember spending most of my teen years in my room anyway I don't think it would be disturbing. If you're on a routine, say you go to bed at 11 and wake up at 6, your grey will fall into your routine and be just fine... plus he or she will nap during the day while you're gone! Do try to convince your mom to let him or her stay in the family room though, hopefully she will let him!
