Barbara2
This tornado weather is crazy. I hope eveyone is safe and out of harms way. It did make me think though. Does everyone have an emergency plan to get their birds to safety in the event of a tornado?
Ray P
Hi Barbara. We hope you are safe and ok too. We do have a plan because we have 4 birds 2 dogs and 3 cats. We are lucky because we have a large basement that has a family room the fifth bed room and 2 other rooms. Tha dogs an cats will go down on their own but the birds we take down to their other cages. We don`t have as many tornados in north east Ohio as central U.S. or as you in Southern Ohio but we get our fair share. O would be better but that won`t happen. Greywings
Not just a Tornado though the time frame to get you and your flock to safety is very limited in such a storm. There are also floods, fire, Earthquakes and Hurricanes to prepare for. It would be simple to keep a pillowcase or carrier handy near your cages enabling you to grab, place the bird in the pillow case or carrier and run to safety. For other types of emergency preparations you would need to consider, water, food, first aid kit and housing. In case of fire-fresh air is imperative. judygram
We also have pet decals in the window of the room are pets are in that tell what kind and the number. You know I thought about using them Ray but then it sort of advertises that you have them if thieves come looking around so I decided against them but I do have travel cages nearby in case they are needed. I don't worry too much about tornadoes where I live as I am in the mountains but that is just one natural disaster and there are many more so its best to be prepared and not need it than need it and not be prepared. Zoom
I keep a carrier under each bird's cage, for a quick getaway in case of fire.
