Ray P
I have told the story of Cricket many times and how she has evolved. She never had toys as far as I know but we gave her a bunch of them that she never played with. The only thing that came with her was this old oval tub that she kept by her side all the time. It was big enought for her to climb in and play. She would carry that tub all over the cage put her head in it and make noise. We all ways had toys in the cage that she did not play with. Now she has been with us for 2 1/2 years and she is about 15 years old. About a month ago she started to play with the toys in her cage that have been there for 2 1/2 years. It started with one and befor long she was playing with all of them. Now she is like a monkey it the zoo and it only took 2 1/2 years. The other thing is when she come to us she could not fly because of her weight and we got her weight down to where she could fly, but she would rather walk or climb to get to where she wanted to go. She would fly once twice a month and that was it. Today she started to fly and has flown more in two hours than she has in the 2 1/2 years. Don`t know what started her but she had a ball. She is my sweet zon and it`s always great to see her keep comming out of her shell and do the things she is supposed to do in her life

katana600
Great job Ray. Never say never. Many of us might put in a toy, or new food type and if it is not accepted, take it back out. Your experience shows me to try try again and to be a thousand times more patient to wait for results. Whatever was the catalyst for this growth spurt in Cricket, she is quickly identifying each success and taking it further. I am so proud of her! I like to think of things in grey time, but zon time may be even on a different scale. Your post has me thinking about every bird within each species may have some expectations but each is as individual as a snowflake and we can always try to meet them and learn from them. What a celebration you must be having for Cricket coming out of her little bubble to enjoy your world with you. I just love it.

Birdnut
This just illustrates the importance of patience and not rushing things or giving up when results don't come when we think they should. It also shows how these intelligent creatures can learn and change, even after many years. Way to go, Cricket!

rbpittman
Ray, it's these wonderful posts that have made me fall even more in love with my zon. I didn't know their personalities evolved in such a way that would take over my life, but I know the joy you are feeling. Cricket is quite the wonderful little zon and I look forward to hearing so much more of her. Robin
