Lucy update

On my way home from the vet. She is in a lot of pain and will be for the rest of her life with her bad leg. They gave me pain meds, vitamin a to help heal her skin and also gave me

A spay too keep her skin moist. We did talk about putting her down. But that's only if she keeps up the mutilation. Like the vet said she has been through alot in her 50 years and she is in a lot of pain. Buy just moving her to a better house she may stop the mutilation. I mean she has done so much to herself that her skin is just tearing by the sores. I will keep u guys updated as much as i can thanks guys and pray for us please ;-)

I have used it also usually if we are expecting a lot of company, it helps our big loud Umbie Too to be less into sounding the alarm. On the mutilating hubby just attended a conference where opiate blockers were used successfully to stop that behavior in primates and that researcher has started appling it to use in treating birds-so far so good. I don't know how much info you or your Avian Vet might find on the subject but it may be worth investigating. I live with a self mutilating Elanora Cockatoo so I know how exasperating and challenging it can be. Fingers crossed that a great fresh diet, real Sunshine a good Vet, uncompromiseing love and care can do.

You are truly blessed to have given Lucy a second chance at life and I hope that better living conditions will stop her from the mutilation she does to herself, keep us informed of any and all progress and much luck.

Wishing you the best of luck with Lucy. I'm glad you have a good avian vet. I hope you keep talking to Jayd and others who have dealt with self mutilation as well. Hi. Sorry i don't come on anymore. Lucy is doing fantastic. Its all in the past and Lucy is still my baby and doing really well. Thanks for every bodies help.
