mcuellar2413
Just wondering what normal baby sounds are. Kenya is 10 weeks old and does alot of soft mumbling and gurgling sounds. She also occasionally does this thing that sounds like a cell phone sitting on someones desk on extra loud vibrate; is this crying? What type of sounds do your babies make? Zoom
I've been wondering the same thing! Simon is just a bit older than Kenya (15 weeks) and he barks to say hello, makes lovely little tweeting sounds while he's eating, and sometimes makes gurgling noises while playing. Occasionally he makes big aggressive noises for no apparent reason - I've only seen that a couple of times. And when he doesn't want to do something (like go back into his cage, or get moved to a different person) he makes protesting noises. Hard to describe. It's like a mildly aggressive gurgle. But he hasn't yet made a sound like a phone on vibrate.
mcuellar2413
Maybe the vibrate thing is a growl and not a cry. That was actually the first noise I heard her make she did it the whole way home from the breeder. Kenya kind of makes noises that remind me of a turkey, gobble gobble, garble garble. Zoom
The big aggressive noise that Simon makes - I've only seen him do it when he's on the floor of his cage. My boyfriend says it sounds like Simon's possessed.
Spinner
Young greys will make all kinds of sounds and vocalizations. Remember that in the wild, they will use their sounds to connect with their clutch mates and to their parents when they come to feed. Where are you or what are you doing when Kenya makes her cell phone sound? She may be calling for you or want attention. It's hard to say without being there. How long has Kenya been away from her clutch mates and parents? She really needs continual contact for another month or two until her independence starts to grow. Ten weeks is very very young and she will feel abandoned if left by herself.
TitaniumPhoenix
Ruffles is just over a year now and he made all of these noises when he was younger. Just like Spinner said, the noises were specific to different things. He would open his beak, look at us and make a tiny 'Ack!' noise when he was hungry. When he would greet us (whether we just came home or uncovered him in the morning) he would make a 'Weet weet!' noise (and he still does this). He also makes the gurgling/vibrating noise, but he usually only does it when his head is being scratched or he is puffed up and content with us (sitting on our knee, hand, arm, etc.). We always assumed this was a purring sound and his way of saying, "Ahh! This is the life!" Try offering her some food and see what kind of reaction you get. Give her a cuddle (if she enjoys it, of course!) and see what noise she makes. This will help you figure out what she wants and give you a chance to bond with her. Shoulderin
My CAG has a cute gurgling/purring noise that has different volumes, and is definitely a sign of happiness. I love it! She squawks when angry or upset and it is loud and dramatic. Very funny because you can tell she is complaining or mad and she looks really irritated. I think her language is very effective!
