The Mystery Bird

Well today I had taken Talon outside today in her travel cage, to enjoy the sunshine. And all of a sudden she whistled, and was looking toward the roof. And I looked up and saw this!

 

 

I'm not sure if it was there when I brought Talon out, or not. But it stayed there the longest time, and when you talked to it, it looked at you! We havent figured out what it is yet, at first my dad thought it was a dove. Anyways, after I came inside my mom said that the bird finally flew, and there was another brown one with it. It's pretty interesting, the bird didn't even seem afraid of us.

It could be one of those white doves some people release at weddings is my guess. But thanks for getting a few shots of it and sharing them with us.

Great shots, definitely a dove, The white doves commonly used in magic acts and kept as pets are NOT white "street" pigeons. They are a white mutation of the domesticated Ringneck Dove, a slim bird with a long tail.

Are you guys sure about the dove? It had a db. beak and dove's don't have one. It was also 3 times larger than Talon. It was quite large, that was what threw us off.

Any other suggestions?

Seriously looks like a dove to me, can it be some kind of mutation dove cross ?

Yep its a dove. Some of them can get really huge.

Okay, thank everyone for your input. We've never seen a big white one like that before. Especially one that seemed like it wanted to befriend us. It stayed for over an hour there, until a hawk tried to scoop it up. Then it took off!

While I was at the barn this morning I took a closer look at the doves in the flight pen.

The females and younger birds tend to be very slender. But the males although not quite as big as the way you say this one was they still were stocky, big breasted birds. I plan to take my camera out there later this week and get some pictures of the doves and maybe some of the other birds I take care of.

Thanks Tari, I guess it was a dove after all. But I wonder if it was a pet. It really seemed to pay attention to me when I spoke to it.

It very well could have been someone's pet, let us know if you ever see it again, I would be interested to know.
