Cage planning for valentine

I listen and watch Marc Marron, on the Hallmark channel nearly everyday. He had a segment of Grey's he stated that for the first year a Grey needs a smaller cage for security. Then to get a bigger one after the birds first birthday.

Do you all agree with the pet doctor?

No I have not heard that one but when you first bring home a young grey you do need to place the perches down lower and pad the cage bottom to cushion any falls for baby greys tend to be a little clumsy until they get more adept at climbing and perching so maybe that is basically what the pet doctor is saying.

i don't know about switching cages, I tried to introduce a "sleeping" cage after Rita had been here 3 months and she wasn't into it the different colors I think spooked her. we are still working on it

I put my baby grey into her full size cage right away she wasn't clumsy at all, but she was fully flighted when she came home so maybe that had something to do with her agility.

I set the perches lower in the cage so there wasn't far to fall and once I was confident she was a great climber I moved them up and filled the cage with toys.

Crystal is right on the money, most of us put our young grey into their full size cages with the perches and such placed lower and maybe a towel or blanket placed in the bottom of the cage to cushion any falls then when they get more agile the perches can be raised to normal heights.
