Hello everyone! After some careful research and interaction I've decided on an African Grey over a Macaw or Cockatoo. I've been a bird guy since I was seven. I've had Finches, Cockatiels, and recently lost my beloved Quaker after 17yrs. I had my Grey sexed before putting a deposit on him and he's a male. He's 6mos old and comes home next Friday, the 18th. Not so great at stepping up but that will come in due time. I've been hovering the forums here the last three weeks and am glad to have such a great source of knowledge with the great members here.

Hi and Welcome to you and your new little boy!!! I am sorry to hear of your loss of your Quaker and very happy that you still have your heart open to love another feather'd friend- I know what you are going through-- make sure you get lots of pics for us (we adore pics!) Have you picked out a name for him yet? I look forward to getting to know you and sharing your journey with your new little guy

Hello BirdsAreGrey8 and welcome to our family, we are so glad you decided on a grey instead of a macaw or too and you won't be disappointed on your choice.

Please continue to browse thru the threads as you will find loads of information that may answer some of your questions, nothing better than real life experiences but if you have any questions do ask and we will help you in any way we can.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone! As for a name I am still undecided. I'm thinking about naming him Duece. Some good news.. I've been visiting him at the pet store over the last three days and he is learning to step up better. So far it's only on hand transfers and he flaps a bit to get his footing but I give him lots of praise when he's on the other hand. It's a start!

And he's a climber!

What an adorable little man! Thanks for sharing pictures. I remember how exciting/nerve wracking bringing home your first grey can be! As previously stated, you won't be disappointed!

Thanks, I'm hoping mine will like it; he comes home tomorrow for the first time. I have since added a hook at each end and a couple plastic chain links for him to play with. The stand could also benefit from some fabric on the perch to make gripping easier but I wanted to keep the How-To basic. It really is simple to make and anyone can do it.

What a handsome boy! May he thrive & flourish under your care. And thanks for the tutorial on the play stand. We keep spools of natural twine on hand to help with grip on things like that + stringing toys.

Welcome and congratulations! That looks like a nice sturdy stand. You can also use vetwrap (co-flex bandage) found in any horse tack store which is easy to apply and remove/replace when it gets soiled.

Hi I am new to the forum as well. My hubby & I will be bringing home our first baby CAG, Louie on March 30th. Did you decide on a name yet? Daddy chose the name Louie so he was very happy Louie is a boy so I won't want to change the name lol. Louie is also learning to step up, say hi monkey & is throwing the occasional temper tantrum. He always wants up on our shoulders of course that is our high comfy perch. He gets very mad when we don't allow him up where he wants to go lol. He is learning not to bite even if he is pissed off at mommy & daddy. I wish you many happy years with your wee boy. I look forward to sharing stories with you. We also have a 6yr old female White-Fronted Amazon, Tarzie who is my sucky girl.
