I have a friend that had a Cockatoo for 37yrs. I asked about her bird, as I always do, and she told me she passed away. The bird started acting odd and died within 45min. So sad. My friend told me she always fed her fruits and veggies but never tried avocado. She had given her some (how long B4 the bird got sick I don't know). I had heard they are very lethal to birds but didn't want to say anything. I didn't want to make her think she killed her bird. I will definately say something to her if she gets another bird, which I don't think she will. I think deep down she might know now. Just thought I would share this since it could save lives. Please check on EVERYTHING you are unsure about B4 giving it to your bird.

I am so sorry about the loss of your friend's too but yes avocado is on the list of toxic foods and it is so tragic she didn't know but that is the advantage of being on a bird forum for we pass that kind of information around in our threads but I do think that it is our responsibility as pet owners to know what not to feed our birds and the information is out there on the Net for all to see but please do tell her if she decides to get another bird and direct her to some bird forum, it doesn't have to be this one but it will be of help to get and share information with other like bird owners.
