Thomas J.
...that my grey, Rosie, wouldn't take at all to a pellet diet seeing how she is a bit of a fussy eater and for the first few days wouldn't touch anything else but what her former owner was feeding her which was Kaytee. I'm sure it's probably a good mix but it seems there's so much sunflower seeds and other seeds that I was worried she wasn't getting a good all around diet. I went to my local bird specialty store and bought a small bag of Zupreem thinking I was just wasting money, but I'll be darned if she finally in the last few days has really taking a liking to it, and even more than the Kaytee. She has two bowls of food always there for her and she prefers the Zupreem much more. Now if only I can get her to like something with calcium and some leafy greens. I guess patience is the name of the game here. I've only had her for a week and a half and I think she's coming along really well with us. Reading about how some people don't have much luck getting their bird to change over to pellets, I'm very optimistic that she'll be a good and healthy addition to our family. judygram
Thats great that she took a liking to the pellets, they will provide good nutrition to her diet, you lucked out on that one for many are hesitant to eat pellets if they haven't been included in their diet to start with. To include some calcium in her diet offer her a couple slivers of cheddar cheese a couple of times a week, no more than a half inch square, my birds go nuts over cheese and they eat it without dropping a single morsel unlike the other things they eat. Keep offering the veggies especially the leafy green ones for they may not eat them to start with but finally one day they take a notion to nibble on them.
