Right hand only

My YNA will ONLY step up on my right hand it is the strangest thing in my opinion. Anyone else have this problem , It makes me curious as to why? :confused:

It's not a problem. She's just fussy. She may like the angle. Did she ever complain to you about it? Did she scold you and tell you to stop annoying her? Did she threaten you and tell you **or else there's gonna be problems ?**

My BFA is a left hand bird. She will step up on to both hands but will always turn around on my right hand so my body is always to her right.

It`s strange but that is what she does

Awwww you are lucky, my BFA won't step up at all, he just flies off. Luckily he will go back to his cage when I say, nite, nite and provide his treats!!!!!!

My CAG was a right-hand-only girl for months and months. If I forgot and presented my left hand, CHOMP! She would fluff up and carry on, growling. Well, it turns out the previous owner is a lefty and now I wonder if that person was not thumping my girl with her left hand.

 

Little by little I would carefully present my left hand, especially bribing her with a pomegranate seed or something else delicious, and she slowly came around. She will still puff up to strangers' left hands, but with me, she'll allow my left hand no problem.

I totally believe a bird as intelligent as a grey or otherwise could detect the difference in steadiness, or any other variables that would give away hand dominance.

I hadn't thought about this before, but Kopi would only step up to my right hand and he liked for me to curl my arm close to my chest to steady himself against my body. It may have been what he learned, but it may also have been since I am right handed, that was the "stronger" hand. Thanks for sharing, it helped me to recall pleasant memories.

That's funny. My 3 will step up anywhere I ask. Carrying 3 parrots around the house, beggars can't be choosy....

 

I usally have one on each shoulder and one somewhere else on an arm! I look like a tree stand!!
