Pine cones

Do any of you pick up pine cones from the wild and offer them to your birds? I see pine cones as parts of toys in the stores all the time, but I worry that pine cones in a city might have contaminants that cannot be washed off. Also, I worry that some pine cones are safe and others are not, or what plant/dust/bug might have gotten nestled within the pine cone.

 

Just wondering if any of you offer your birds pine cones, and if so, under what circumstances. Thanks in advance!

Would love someone to give some info on this subject... I have big pine cones in my yard.. I'm just afraid there too sticky.

They grow in our yard so we just rinse with a little vinegar water allow to dry and give to the birds occasionally paint with a little Almond butter or Peanut butter and add some pine nuts or sprouted seeds.
