DonaldLL Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I have done a search and didn't really see where I should buy the material to make a climbing net. I see some warnings not to buy treated sisal but no suggestions where to buy the right stuff... is sisal the best? Anybody have some recommendation(s)?
Roseanna Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I use sisal rope or leather for my homemade toys. You could also use cotton rope? Maybe if you are lucky to find some in bright colors (like rope toys for parrots) that would be cool Hemp twine could also be a possibility?
JDS5607 Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I use cotton rope in 1/8" for my little birds, and 1/4" for my large birds. I also use Poly-rope for the little birds.
Guest Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 I've wondered the saaaaaaaame thing. There're lots of comments saying "Don't use this, don't use that," but very, very little on where to buy the sisal rope that IS safe. I mean, the bird toy people have a source, so it must be available. But where it is is beyond me.
Roseanna Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 I come from a small country in Europe, that's why i didn't write where i bought it But i hope you'll find a place to get it
Barbara2 Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 I found this site: http://www.birdyboredombusters.com/rope.html
birdhouse Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 (edited) I was hoping there'd be some more answers to this. I originally got mine given to me, but I'm going to need to buy some more sisal to rehab my boing. I've done a little checking & come up with these websites. I don't have any experience with any of them. So, it would be great to hear any feedback. I think I've seen members post about the first one...? http://www.cabirdnerds.com/index.html http://www.greyfeathertoys.com/ http://stores.ebay.com/junglebeaks http://www.birdsafestore.com/rope.aspx http://www.fowl-play.com/cart/en-us/dept_8.html Edited October 20, 2010 by birdhouse
DonaldLL Posted October 21, 2010 Author Posted October 21, 2010 Thanks everybody for the links. I was hoping to find some 1/2" sisal but that seems impossible to locate. I may just go with 1/2" Super Cotton. I have done business with cabirdnerds and birdsafestore and can recommend both.
Talon Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Has anyone found that the cotton rope breaks when pulled on? Mine does... I purchased a climbing net for my birds. I bought the recommended size for african greys., It is way too big, I wished I had bought the smaller size...
DonaldLL Posted October 24, 2010 Author Posted October 24, 2010 Talon... what size did you buy and where? I ordered the Superior Cotton... once I make the net I will provide feedback
judygram Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Here is one site you will find those nets but if you look further you may find them somewhat cheaper: http://www.windycityparrot.com/page/Windycityparrot/PROD/91401071001
Luvparrots Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 I have one of those climbing nets for my birds. I also got one that was way too large and have considered cutting it in half. Ana Grey does enjoy it as it is in front of one of the windows and she does love to see outside.
Talon Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Talon... what size did you buy and where? I ordered the Superior Cotton... once I make the net I will provide feedback I ordered mine from Windy city. It is too large and I cut it in half. I have it hanging from 2 hooks in the back corner of my living room, and secured on the bottom with 2 hooks also. I have toys hung on it and a large purple jolly ball around it too. Nilah and Talon use it a lot. Rikki won't have anything to do with it. I have had it there for over a year....
Guest Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Hiya, Talon, I would love to see a picture of your set-up, with your birdy on it! Thanks!
Guest Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Oh! I just came across this site with really clear instructions on how to make those purdy knots and all. Plus, she has some good info on selecting the right size rope and all. Anyway, hope this is helpful! http://www.birdtricks.com/blog/how-to-make-a-climbing-net-for-your-parrot/
