JDS5607 Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Well, Sully LOVES pumpkin... I gave him raw pumpkin, and he wasn't CRAZY about it, but I also gave him some of the "guts" and he INHALED IT. SO- I baked the pumkin in the oven for an hour (til it got mushy) And now he can't get enough!!! Anyone have any pumpkin birdie recipies? I would like to make him some kind of cookie or cake with maybe some seed, and other veggies in as a treat for snack time. Any ideas?
slmclean Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 dids you peel it or just give him the outer stuff to i'm baking one now and i was wondering about the outer skin if it was ok or not.
judygram Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 All this talk of pumpkin is making me want to go out and get one to bake for my fids. I will have to check my cookbook for birds that I bought this summer and see if any of the recipes use pumpkin, will get back to you on that.
Azzie Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Did a quick internet search for you, and found these for you: http://www.birdloversuncaged.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7427 http://www.quakerparrots.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=17700 Couldn't resist adding this one...parrot birthday cakes!!! http://www.parrotrecipes.com/recipes/cake.php
JDS5607 Posted October 4, 2010 Author Posted October 4, 2010 Thanks Azzie & Judy!! slmclean- I scooped all the stuff out from the middle, cut it in half and baked it at 350ish for an hour. I scooped the flesh out after it had cooled. When I give it to them raw, I just chop it up. I usually don't give them the skin just because it doesn't seem to be chewed well!
Luvparrots Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 My Ana Grey loves to crunch up the skins!!!!
judygram Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Well one out of two isn't bad Susan, glad to hear it was Chloe who loved it and its good for her.
Birdnut Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Wow! All this talk about pumpkins is giving me the notion to go out and get a small one for our fids. There are certainly plenty of them available this time of year.
