I hope stupid question are allow because here goes one. I tasted the sprouts that my birds are refusing to eat and they were bitter and I don't blame them for not eating them BUT I thought birds didn't really have tastebuds per say that is why they can eat hot peppers and things am I wrong can they taste bitterness and things as we do?

Karen

If I remember right, a parrot has 400 taste bud,'s [?] as compared to many more we have. No stupid question.. Yes they go by taste. Try "Mung beans, sunflower seeds" Jayd

Maybe their tastebuds are more directed at sweets and salts rather than spicy? Perhaps they don't have tastebuds sensitive to spice if that makes any sense?

Grey's and other parrots can taste spices and the hot in peppers etc, it's just that humans can distinguish many different levels of hot, where as a parrot might go from a Red pepper to a Jalapeno, to Mesabi...So don't go to hot, remember, Grey's relish there foods..:).Thanks
