DonaldLL
Hello Birdlovers! I am out of town and have yet to see our new CAG in our home; I did meet her several times at the place where we bought her but she's been home since Saturday and is adjusting well. My sig has taken the week off and they have been bonding non stop. Anyway she, Stella, went to the vet for the first time and weighed in at 397 grams. She's got a clean bill of health and seems to be a happy little bird. This is not a question of concern but rather a curiousity and an attempt at learning all about our new baby... She is exactly 15 weeks old. At 397 grams how much more will she gain in weight by the time she's full grown? How long (at what age) does their weight reach it's stable maximum? Will she be considered small or medium, or _____ when she's full grown? Regardless I am going to brag about her, I just want to be accurate when I do Thanks Edited September 16, 2010 by DonaldLL
Azzie
Hi Donald Check out this site, it may have some answers for you: http://www.avianweb.com/africangreys.htm (now there's a name some of us might recognise too, under the photos!) Bear in mind the numbers there are averages, so there are greys who will fall outside that range.) From what I can gather, a grey will be fully grown around 8-10 months of age, but other people here will be able to confirm (or deny) that. Also remember when she is fledging, she may lose a little weight.
DonaldLL
Thanks Azzie... I have seen this chart. I was wondering how much more weight she might gain from 15 weeks till full grown. She's at 397gr now at 15 weeks. I haven't seen any discussions about weights at these young ages or how they equate to full grown weights. Just wondering if she'll be sml, med, or large by normal standards. Donald

DonaldLL
Hi Dave... thank you. I had seen this post and it is very informative. Don't the weights you have listed apply to full grown Grey's? With Stella being 15 weeks I thought she may still gain some weight befor she 'tops out'... I don't know... just askin' Thanks
DrTak
Lulu gained about 30 grams from 15 weeks to 11 months. I don't know if this is representative.
judygram
At 15 weeks they are mostly fully grown and may lose some when they fledge, they do get to their adult weight quickly.
jeanna
My grey only weighed 370 grams at the last weigh-in at about 8 months old. He's really small, isn't he? Well he could always be a she since I hear females tend to be smaller. Haven't DNA tested yet, I'll probably do that sometime in the near future but I like to think of him as a boy anyway.
