I've just been given loads of Eucalyptus branches to make some toys and a new playgym. Although this wood is quite heavy, it's nice and knarly which I like.

What wood would you be able to get hold off?

I think the actual wood from Maple trees is non-toxic, the problem with Red Maple is the bark can contain a bacteria which is not good for our feathered friends. I've read that as long as the bark is stripped and the wood is treated well then it should be ok.

In choosing live wood, or wood from your yard, you must be careful of: exhaust fumes, pesticide's,[they saturate the wood] insects and there eggs, other bird droppings, urine etc.....
