Cheshire Cat
I want to have another tattoo in honour of Tui. My tattoo I have now is of the Cheshire Cat, hence my screen name. I'm obsessed with the character. I also wanted something which very few other people have. I like unique designs. I was thinking about this after my sister had one with her cat's name. Greys live for a very long time so for most of my life Tui will be with me. I've always wanted a tattoo of wings as I love fairies and angels. But now I've been modifying designs a little. I'd like either a wing or wings (obviously because she's a bird), with Tui's name in red (representing her tail feathers) Here are a couple I made. What do you think? Azzie
I love the second one. It looks much more like Grey wings to me than the other two. I'm wondering....to represent her grey and red colours, could you perhaps get some light shading done somewhere on the tattoo, to give it the grey shade, and maybe some little outlines in red, just very subtle? Birdnut
I like the second one best, as well.
Rrrma
I love the second one. Where do you think it will go? I have 2 currently and am also thinking of a new one that may be wings of a butterfly or moth.
Cheshire Cat
I like the second one, too. I'll have to ask if they do grey shades. I'm not sure if they do. Otherwise I'd have the wing in grey and her name in red. I was thinking of having it on my shoulder blade as my other tattoo is on the top of my right arm. I don't particularly want it on the top of my left as I think two tats on the tops of my arms will look manly, but that's just me. Any decent tattoo artist knows how to shade and color!!! Oddly enough I was thinking about this on my drive to work this morning lol! I was thinking it would be really cool if it faded from grey to black, similar to a grey's wings. I think on the shoulder blade would be cool too, but I have this problem with wanting to see my tattoos... so I'd have a hard time with anything on my back lol! Cheshire Cat
I don't know all that much about tats, despite having one. Mine was just black outline and plain colours. As you said, I'm sure they'd do grey but I doubt that many people ask for it.
judygram
Those who get a whole grey done have to have a pretty good sized one to show the detail but I also like the second sketch of wings, why don't you check out the tattoo artists in your area and see what they offer and what they can do as far as what you want. Cheshire Cat
I was talking to my mom about it last night and she advised me to go back to the place I got my first one at. She said at least I know they're good and had no problems last time. I might get the design printed, take it in and see what they say and how they can modify it. judygram
Sounds like a plan, please let us see what you come up with.
Cheshire Cat
I've seen some full picture tattoos of African Greys, but it's finding someone good enough to do a free hand tat from a picture which is the problem. I don't want to go in with a picture and they make a mess of it.
Azzie
Shading in grey is done with black ink, it's just applied in a different technique. I believe the ink is deposited a little deeper under the skin, giving it a faded and grey appearance, rather than black. Any tattoo artist worth their salt will know how to do shading. Here some hideous tattoos, but it gives an idea of the varying degrees of shading that's possible: http://www.tao-of-tattoos.com/black-and-gray-tattoos.html
Rrrma
I hope you the best in locating someone. Maybe search for forums in the uk for tattoos. I'm lucky my first tat was done by someone whom I really trust, connect with, and does quality work. Ill continue using him, as I already have for my 2. judygram
I have two tattoos and am wanting another one, just haven't decided what or where I want it but I will go back to the same place I had my other two done for they do quality work. Good luck to you and I hope you find what you want and it turns out to be everything you hoped for.
KimKim
I also like the second one the best. I also have 2 small tattoos, one on the inside of my ankle of an outline of a shepherd and on on my lower back of a tribal design. I have been wanting another one, something to do with my time in the USMC, and I was thinking on the inside of my bicep... but I am sure that would hurt!!
