baa waa
hiya guys as u know i have jus aquired a baby cag and hes doing fab but am worried about my mums cag now billy!! let me fill ya in on billy!!!he was from a rescue centre about 4 years ago so she doesnt have much background info on him but hes been fit and well and always a fantastic talker!! hes not the friendliest of birds and cant be handled very much altho will step onto hand to come out and sit on a knee!!bt does have a tendency to be quite nasty if approached when hes out! because of this he doesnt get out that much bt has alot of attention throughout the day in the cage! lately he has gone extremely quiet and subdued and constantly scratching at the left side of his face! today his face is swollen and he has a jet black circle around his left eye that looks very bruised! because he cant be handled vets are reluctant to see him so is there any advice what this could be or how she can go about getting him seen 2?? many thanks
Dave007
Usually a vet has a technition always working there and many procedures, serious or minor that are done on birds usually involve the vet and the assistant. If he's an avian vet then, he's more than likely have dealt with birds of all dispositions. If he's a regular vet then I can understand him being a little leery of handling the bird. It's hard to give an opinion without pictures. Falling and banging into something can cause that. A very irritated area of skin where quills are pressing into the skin. Having a bad accident with a heavy duty toy can do that. But guess work isn't a good idea. You may need to contact another vet that will handle an aggressive bird. baa waa
Thanx dave! He's def not had and banging accidents as he hasn't been out for over a week! I'll try find mum an avian vet and have him checked.
judygram
Dave is right, an avian vet will more than likely know how to deal with a bird that hasn't been handled much and/or aggressive birds and in my opinion he should be seen by an avian vet as a regular vet who deals with all sorts of animals won't have the experience. Something has obviously happened to make a place swell up and be blue and it sounds like some kind of fall or interaction with a toy but he may need medicine and for that he has to be seen by a vet. He doesn't have to be outside the cage to have had an accident falling or by playing rough with one of his toys. Please let us know what you find out Louise. Tweedle
oooh, that looks sore, and I think really does need to be seen by a vet. There are lots of things that could be causing it, and it takes the specialist to know about them. I would suggest tracking one down - at the very least for an email consult with those pics if you can't actually get there, and they can advise your own vet on what to prescribe. danmcq
The eye looks terrible and if it's running, it is serious. I am certain the instant your mother see him an avian vet visit will take place right away. Is it possible to let your mom know ahead of time so you can call and get the visit schedules asap? I cannot stress the need for this grey to be seen asap.

baa waa
The absyss is very large and very infected he says all his head is swollen and something about holes In his skull like honeycomb which is also infected!! Psyticosis was mentioned along with chlamydia r sonething but he would have to send swabs Off to be sure!!He said he could lance the eye and flush the head but chances are he would die in the table and even then it could not work as it's that bad and would keep returning!! He would need to be on a ventilator for a few Months also!!!he is suffering and would suffer greatly for the slight chance it cud work!!!
