Treat testing

Tweedle

Recommended Posts

I'm after some ideas for alternatives to use as training treats. Unfortunately Pippa is exceedingly conservative when it comes to food. After 5 days of adding sprouts to her Harrison's, she still hasn't eaten a single one. Any suggestions for treats? What are your bird's favourites?

Pippa likes:

1) Peanuts

2) Peanuts

3) Peanuts

4) Sunflower seeds

She seems to like millet, but not in an instant-take-it-as-a-treat thing.

Most of our birds love cashews, so a cashew bit works well for us as a training treat. For Moussa, I have been using pine nuts. Pine nuts are really expensive here, but a little bit goes a long way, if you only use it as a training treat. Also, the pine nuts are a nice small size, so Moussa consumes them quickly, which is important for a training treat.

Good ones Dave!

Dayo loves:

1. Pine Nuts

2. Walnuts

3. Almonds

4. Peanuts (shelled)

5. Grape

6. Apple

7. Mango

8. Coconut

Different days equal different cravings. They seem to switch up, much like us humans when we have a sudden chocolate attack. :)

I use safflower seeds for Babalu, he only gets those when we work with the harness. He loves them! He would also eat cheese all day long, but again he only gets that when I want him to step up, but he wont, then I bust out cheese and he is my best friend. I think he knows how to make me give him cheese now, as he doesn't step up as much... hmmm.. he trained me, LOL.

I second the cheese, Josey will do about anything for a piece of cheddar cheese, she pays no attention to almonds or pine nuts.
