Two female Amazon in the same cage?

Hello,

The DNA Sex test results arrived today……we have 2 females.

One of the reasons we wanted a couple was so that they could bond with each other and stay togheter in the same cage. Now that we know we have two females, what can we expect for the future, especially living in the same cage when they reach sexual maturity?

I've been searching everywhere on the internet and not been able to find anything about 2 female Amazons together. Lots of info about breeding pairs and also about 2 males but, nothing coming up about 2 females. If I find anything i'll post it up :)

Hi, 2 female,s can bond the same as 2 males or male/female bonding, this is not sexual. Most of the time, two birds not meant for breeding should be kept in separate cages, they still can get along when their out of their cages. Most of the time, when 2 birds bond, they'll be loyal to each other and not the caretaker!, and that "means look don't touch". My personal feeling, not a good idea....

I understand your point of view. However, the reason we got two parrots was so that they could ‘socialize’ with each other, as we are most of the day away from home at work. If they were in separate cages, in spite of seeing each other, they couldn’t touch, groom or interact so easily. :(

I think I prefer them to have a loyal friend on their side for interacting for most part of the day, and in the few hours I am at home just be the one that looks….and touches them when they allow me to :) But this is a personal view and option, of course I respect other views. ;) MY only concern in this matter is that they get along and don’t attack each other.
