Cheshire Cat
My dad made a home made perch for my Tui and it was quite simply made from a normal bird house on a stand. He removed the bird house and inserted a perch across the stand. My dad has always been very handy when it comes to making things. The only sad thing about it is that when Tui goes on her perch, she bites at it and it's a shame seeing as my dad did a wonderful job of making it. I'm sure she'll appreciate it soon. Bless her. judygram
Sorry but I had to laugh:D at this one but a bird is going to chew on wood, be it perches, toys, playstands or whatever they can get to, if its made of wood then it very likely will be destroyed either somewhat or completely but just enjoy the fact that she likes it and maybe your dad can make more things for Tui to enjoy or destroy. Look at it this way, Tui could be destroying your wood furniture or your cabinets, door and window facings, count your blessings.
birdhouse
Making things for the fids is always a learning process, no matter how long you're at it. Part of the process is accepting that we're making things to be destroyed. The faster they destroy it, the better the toy was to them. Next time, he might try using a different type of wood. Maple & manzanita wood seem to last best around here. I like the manzanita wood because it's irregular shaped & maybe better for their perching. Also, both woods clean well. Cheshire Cat
Oh, I know that Greys chew at everything. Tui even tries to chew at my gerbils' waterbottles. Haha. I said to her today that it's cheeky she does that. My gerbils don't come into her cage and bite her water bowls.
