lovethatgrey
P.s. Do you know Adina, that your videos of the buffet ball are featured on the Northern Parrots website on the buffet ball page!!! I watched them and thought - I know those birds!!!! Really? I guess that's a compliment!! Must go check it out. Thanks Pearllyn!!
lovethatgrey
Well, Alfie does enjoy her buffet ball, but unfortunately, she's another nut nut!! Whatever I put in there, she just takes the nut off the bottom instantly now. I've noticed that the place where i got this now sells a similar version, but one that mounts onto the bars of the cage, with the nut on the top instead of the bottom - might be better. Oh yes.. here's a blurb I had written about this same problem. Today I came home from a long day's work and to my utter horror and astonishment found the Kabob portion hanging by its lonely self. and the buffet ball and platter on the floor of Emma's cage. Obviously Emma had managed to tinker with the mechanism at the end of the skewer and once the buffet ball and platter hit the ground, they both stayed there untouched the whole day. Thank goodness, they did not break. I have decided not to use the skewer anymore, Instead I have replaced the skewer with my Mother Pluckin toy skewers and for Sachi's I am using a simple Vegetable kabob skewer for parrots. It works very well with the Buffet ball. They are much more secure at the bottom and it would be pretty impossible for Emma or Sachi to unscrew them on purpose or inadvertently. Here's a photo of what I have done and here's a link to Motherpluckinbirdtoys. http://motherpluckinbirdtoys.com/ Edited August 9, 2010 by lovethatgrey
KimKim
Hi, I just bought one of these after reading about everyone else's. I'm not sure how the nut on the bottom is on your guy's, but mine has a button you have to push to get off. Is that how yours are? And your greys still can get it off? The first pic Im trying to show the button, and the second just looks wrong!
KimKim
Oh, I think I might take the dish off, he seems to be having a hard time getting to the treats.
lovethatgrey
Yes.. I had the same little knob at the bottom. Emma was able to figure it out after the 2nd day. It is very very dangerous and a parrot can seriously hurt themselves if the platter and the buffet ball come crashing down on their head. I do not like that aspect of this buffet ball kabob and this is why I made the NECESSARY adjustments to provide a safe and fun toy for my parrots. Jme. chelseaB
Yep, that's the same one. Biscotti also figured out how to get his foraging wheel apart, some how pulling outward with his beak & turning & eventually the nut & bolt come lose & it goes crashing to the cage bottom. They say these items are "parrot proof", I'm beginning to think there isn't such a thing! I actually talked with the owner of Caitec, that makes/markets these products, and there is a second generation foraging wheel coming out in a few months that he says is going to be easier to fill & won't have the nut-bolt coming lose problem. Wonder if they'll take a trade in. Ha, ha. I would like to give the newer model the Biscotti test!!

chelseaB
Wow, Biscotti is a smart boy! Lol, I don't know if it's intelligence or not, most likely just plain old determination!! Here is a pic of the way I "fixed" his buffet ball & platter. I just switched it to a kabob I got from Drs Foster & Smith. It is all stainless steel, he has not figured out how to get the "nut" off of this one!
